The admissions process

How much is the application fee?

The application fee is $100 for all programs.

How do I qualify for an application fee waiver?

Miami Herbert offers a limited number of application fee waivers. To qualify, applicants must register and attend one of our in-person or virtual informational events. Visit the Upcoming Webinars page.

When are the admission deadlines?

Application deadlines vary depending upon your program start date as outlined here. We encourage candidates to apply early for priority admission and scholarship consideration. We recommend all international candidates apply by Round 3 in order to allow time for the visa application process for in-person programs.

What should be included in my personal statement or essay?

We suggest including, but not limited to, the following in your personal statement or essay: your academic background, career goals, reasons for pursuing the program, why you chose Miami Herbert Business School, and how the program aligns with your professional aspirations and values. Typically, a personal statement or essay is around 500–650 words.

GMAT/GRE

Which standardized test does Miami Herbert Business School prefer, GMAT or GRE?

While GMAT and GRE test results are not mandatory for graduate programs, submitting an unofficial test score can be beneficial for securing the maximum merit-based scholarship. PhD programs require GMAT or GRE scores and do not consider waivers. Please note that while you may submit unofficial or self-reported scores for submission, official versions will be required prior to program orientation. * GMAT Code: 7NV-S1-96 * GRE Code: 5815 Only test scores received electronically from the testing service are considered official.

Can I self-report my test score?

Yes! If you have a valid and competitive test score, we encourage you to upload a PDF copy of your score report through the application portal. If you plan to retest, you can hold off on uploading your score until after your application is submitted and you’ve had a chance to retake the exam.

TOEFL/IELTS

Do I qualify for a TOEFL/IELTS waiver?

If English is not your native language, the English proficiency requirement may be waived if you hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an academic institution within the United States or from one of the following countries: * Antigua and Barbuda * Australia * Bahamas * Barbados * Belize * Canada (except Quebec) * Dominica * Grenada * Guyana * Ireland * Jamaica * New Zealand * Saint Kitts and Nevis * Saint Lucia * Saint Vincent and the Grenadines * Trinidad and Tobago * United Kingdom The English proficiency exam requirement may also be waived if you hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from an academic institution, regardless of country, where the language of instruction was English. Official documentation confirming English as the language of instruction must be submitted with your application. The language of instruction can be confirmed via a statement on the official transcript, the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services international credential evaluation, or memo/letter issued to the University of Miami from the Registrar (or equivalent) at the foreign degree granting institution.

If I don’t meet the minimum language requirement, can I still apply for the program?

To enroll in a graduate business program, candidates must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements. Applicants whose native language is not English can demonstrate proficiency by submitting scores from one of the following exams: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test.

Where should I send my transcripts?

Transcripts must be submitted directly to the University of Miami or program you have applied to. If sending transcripts via Parchment, select "University of Miami - Graduate School." Please reach out to the admissions representative for your selected program for additional details.

Recommendation Letter

My recommender hasn’t submitted the letter yet. Can I submit the application?

Yes, you can submit the application before your recommender completes the letter.

My recommender hasn’t received the link to submit the letter yet, what should I do?

Once you choose your recommender, be sure to inform them about the process and they will be completing the recommendation electronically. We recommend getting their preferred email address and asking them to monitor the inbox for your request.
